Veterans Kiosk Unveiled at Buffalo Niagara International Airport
BUFFALO, N.Y.- The New York State Department of Veterans’ Services today announced the installation of a new digital Veterans Welcome Center Kiosk inside Buffalo Niagara International Airport, providing an interactive and user-friendly resource for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families to learn about the benefits earned by their service.
This new kiosk will be the fifteenth Veterans Welcome Center Kiosk deployed in high-traffic locations throughout the state, providing a non-traditional but highly beneficial form of specialized assistance to all who have served our state and nation. Earlier this year, New York State received the national Pillars of Excellence Award from the Secretary of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in recognition of the success of this project, which began in 2022 as an initiative highlighted in Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State message and has steadily continued successfully ever since.
“As a United States Marine Corps Veteran myself, I can personally verify the importance of leveraging every possible strategy to inform Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families about their earned benefits upon their homecoming,” New York State Department of Veterans’ Services Commissioner Viviana DeCohen said. “As the Commissioner of New York State’s Department of Veterans’ Services, I am proud of the positive impact that these Veterans Welcome Center digital kiosks are having statewide. They are crucial components of our daily mission to find and serve those who have served us, connecting them with the benefits, services, and resources that they've earned.”
The new kiosk will stand near Buffalo Niagara International Airport’s WNY Freedom Lounge, building upon the welcoming environment that the Freedom Lounge creates for traveling Service Members and Veterans. Run by a not-for-profit organization, the Freedom Lounge offers comfortable seating, snacks, Internet connectivity, reading material, and more to boost the morale of Service Members and Veterans traveling through Buffalo.
"The Buffalo Airport is a proud supporter of our military," said Kim Minkel, NFTA executive director. "Through our partnership with the Western New York Freedom Lounge, we look forward to enhancing our amenities for the military service members who travel to and from our airports. It’s a wonderful way to honor the sacrifices they have all made for our country."
