NFTA- Metro Launches Community Outreach for Bus Rapid Transit
BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA-Metro) announced outreach plans for Western New York’s first ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, which will run along Bailey Avenue, one of the busiest routes in its system.
NFTA-Metro is excited to announce a series of public engagement activities this fall, including various community events
To ensure engagement activities are reaching the whole community, NFTA's consultants, Creighton Manning and Highland Planning are looking for members of the community to be ambassadors. These are paid positions with specific roles related to spreading the word about the project and soliciting feedback from residents, riders, and other community members in the Bailey Avenue corridor. For more information on the ambassador program, or to apply, please visit: https://forms.office.com/r/XkdNY0gnzi. Applications close on October 11, 2024.
Engagement activities will build upon programs provided this summer through the Buffalo Community Connectors grant led by East Buffalo Development Corporation: https://buffaloconnectors.org/
The historic and transformational project is made possible thanks to U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand securing a $102 million-dollar competitive federal grant. Additional funding was provided by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, former NYS Senator, now Congressman Tim Kennedy and the entire Western New York delegation.
The planning and pre-engineering phase, and associated public engagement, is expected to be completed in Spring 2025. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.
