NFTA Opens DL&W Train Station
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is excited to announce that the DL&W Metro station is now open to the public. This marks a major milestone in expanding access to Buffalo’s growing waterfront and revitalizing one of the region’s most historic transit landmarks. This accomplishment is the result of the financial support we received from Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Tim Kennedy, and the entire Western New York Delegation.
"This new station is a vote of confidence in Downtown Buffalo’s future, an acknowledgement of our rich history, and a commitment to our growth.” Said Congressman Tim Kennedy.
“As visitors from across the country and Canada come Downtown to enjoy our waterfront or attend a game, they’ll see a city that continues to invest in and reinvent itself. Thank you to the NFTA for seeing the project through to fruition and thank you to the many tireless workers who made this a reality. When we invest in public transit, our entire community reaps the rewards.”
“This is such an exciting day for our community to come together and celebrate this major milestone in the renovation of the DL&W Station.” Said Kim Minkel, executive director, NFTA. “The opening of the DL&W is a significant event; it symbolizes the revival of a historic landmark and the expansion of the Metro rail system. We are proud to return this building to the public.”
DL&W will provide efficient and convenient services for residents and visitors alike, supporting the ongoing revitalization of the Canalside and Cobblestone districts. The NFTA will continue working on the remediation of the second level of the DL&W, which is on track to be completed in 2026.
