University Station Construction Alert – Beginning in November

Passengers traveling on Routes 19, 5, and 81 should review the temporary boarding locations below before traveling to University Station.

Good Things are in Motion. Temporary Disruptions Along the Way.

Beginning the first week of November through summer 2027, construction will begin on the new Bailey Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Station located at University Station. During construction, some  bus stops will be temporarily relocated, and pedestrian access to the University Loop will be detoured .

Construction will temporarily change bus boarding and pedestrian routes at University Station.

  • Routes 5 & 81: Board at temporary stops near the current boarding area. Marked with a Temporary sign about 15 feet east of the current stops. Look for the “Buses Stop Here” sign and wait at that location.
  • Route 19: Board at the entrance to University Station. Look for the “Buses Stop Here” sign and wait at that location.

Accessibility Information

Passengers who require elevator access to University Rail Station have two options:

  • Kiss & Ride entrance: Enter the Rail Station through the entrance near the Kiss & Ride, (accessible parking lot) located southeast of the station near Main Circle and Hayes Road.
  • Pedestrian detour: Follow the posted signs directing passengers along the accessible pedestrian route.

Pedestrian Access to the University Loop

Passengers walking to the University Loop from the Park and Ride must follow the temporary pedestrian detour during construction.

  • From the Park & Ride: Use the crosswalk in front of the bus loop. Cross the street and enter University Station at the entrance across from Wendy’s.
  • Elevator access: Use the Kiss & Ride entrance near Main Circle and Hayes Road (accessible parking lot). An accessible pedestrian detour is also available.

Please allow extra travel time. Temporary signs will mark the new routes and boarding locations. Passengers who cannot locate the temporary route or boarding area may call Customer Service 716-855-7211 for assistance.

Schedules and Service Alerts

Before traveling, passengers are encouraged to check the latest schedules and sign up for Metro Alerts for updates that may affect their trip.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as construction moves forward. The Bailey Ave BRT project and the associated improvements to sidewalks, traffic signals, and the roadway will provide better transit service and repair public infrastructure in ways that will support further investment in the communities along the corridor.

We apologize for any inconvenience these temporary changes may cause and thank our passengers for following posted signs and instructions to help ensure safe and efficient access to transit services.
