NFTA Takes Proactive Measures to Prepare for Solar Eclipse
Public Transportation will help ease expected astronomical traffic
With the highly anticipated solar eclipse on the horizon, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is gearing up to ensure a safe and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike. Scheduled to occur on April 8, the solar eclipse presents a unique opportunity for celestial enthusiasts to witness a rare astronomical phenomenon.
Recognizing the significance of the event, the NFTA has created a map listing key routes leading to popular viewing areas. Special eclipse glasses will be provided to riders with an aim to incentivize the use of public transportation while reducing environmental impact.
As part of its commitment to public safety and accessibility, the NFTA has collaborated with local authorities and stakeholders to develop traffic management strategies. Special attention has been given to areas of high foot traffic to ensure efficient flow, while encouraging eclipse watchers to ride public transit to mitigate traffic congestion and enhance the overall viewing experience.
"We are fully dedicated to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all individuals eager to witness this extraordinary event," said James Morrell, Director of Public Transportation. "Operationally, we will have all-hands-on-deck and we aim to provide seamless transportation solutions that enable residents and visitors to experience the solar eclipse with ease and convenience."
In addition to transportation initiatives, the NFTA is asking the public to familiarize themselves with the MetGo App and $2 reloadable cards for a quick and convenient way to pay for their rides. By working together with the community, the NFTA aims to create an unforgettable experience that fosters a sense of wonder and curiosity about the universe.
