NFTA - Metro's Survey on BRT Upgrades Ends Christmas Eve
BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA-Metro) is thrilled to share the latest developments on the Bailey Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. In partnership with the City of Buffalo and building on previous studies, NFTA-Metro is advancing efforts to plan, design, construct, and implement BRT along Bailey Avenue, while also introducing critical infrastructure improvements.
The Bailey Avenue BRT project aims to transform public transit in the area. BRT systems are designed to provide faster, more reliable service through features like reduced wait times, dedicated bus lanes, and priority traffic signals. In addition, the project will include enhanced “stations” for a more comfortable passenger experience, alongside improvements to sidewalks and streets to ensure the entire corridor is safer for everyone.
We Want to Hear from You!
As part of the planning process, NFTA-Metro is inviting community members to share their feedback about Bailey Avenue and their vision for its future. To participate, please complete a short survey here: SurveyMonkey | Bailey Avenue BRT. Participants who include their email or phone number will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $25 Tops gift cards! Don’t delay—surveys must be submitted by December 24th, 2024.
Community Outreach in Action
Bailey Avenue BRT Community Ambassadors have already begun engaging with residents and businesses along the corridor. Keep an eye out for these ambassadors as they provide updates on the project and gather input from the community. Additional information about the ambassadors and their outreach efforts will be available soon on the project website.
Upcoming Public Meetings
NFTA-Metro will host three public meetings—two in-person and one virtual—in February 2025. Specific dates and locations will be announced in early January. Stay informed by visiting the project website and following NFTA-Metro’s social media channels for the latest updates.
The historic and transformational project is made possible thanks to U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand securing $102 million dollars in federal grants (DOT). Additional funding was provided by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, former NYS Senator, Congressman Tim Kennedy and the entire Western New York delegation.
NFTA-Metro looks forward to working closely with the community to make the Bailey Avenue BRT project a success. Together, we can build a safer, more efficient, and more connected transit system for Buffalo!
