Runway 5-23 Rehabilitation

Phase one and two of the NFTA rehabilitation of Runway 5-23 at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) are complete. Field construction on the first phase of the project was completed in September of 2023. The second phase of the project was completed in October of 2024. The Third phase, rehabilitation of Taxiway A, that runs parallel to Runway 5, is scheduled for completion in November 2025. The entire project's close-out will be completed in early 2026. 

This critical infrastructure project underscores the NFTA’s commitment to maintaining a state-of-the-art facility, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and the long-term operational needs of the airport. Construction involved comprehensive upgrades to the runway’s surface, lighting, and navigational aids, enhancing safety and operational resilience to support the increasing demands of both commercial and general aviation.
