AGE - Applicants must be at least 20 years old at the time of examination; must be 21 years old at time of appointment.
CRIMINAL RECORDS - Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in any state. Unlawful acts in your past may not disqualify you, but withholding information will eliminate you from the process.
EDUCATION - Applicants must possess a United States high school diploma, or equivalent, and either:
- A minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university; or
- 30 college credit hours and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military following at least two years active military service, six years reserves or US National Guard Service; or
- 30 college credit hours and successful completion of a Certified Police Officer Training Course approved by, or equivalent to a course approved by, the NYS Municipal Police Training Council. NYS Peace Officer certification does not qualify for this exception.
CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENT - U.S. citizenship is required for appointment.
DRIVERS LICENSE - Applicants must posses a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment.
