Division Commander – Captain Christopher Chiodo

Transit police officers perform patrol duties, such as traffic control, enforcement, taking accident and crime reports and making arrests. The Airport Division monitors the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, Niagara Falls International Airport and related NFTA properties. The primary requirement of the division is rapid response to the terminal's Security Checkpoint in the event of a security breach. Officers routinely respond to the Checkpoint because of weapons, drugs, and other hazardous items.
The BNIA is located in the town of Cheektowaga, New York. The airport serves Buffalo, NY and Southern Ontario, averaging 110 daily flights with nonstop service to 18 cities. The BNIA plays an essential role in the development of business and tourism in the Buffalo Niagara region. Buffalo Niagara International Airport exceeded 5,300,000 passengers for 2007.
Niagara Falls International Airport is located in Niagara Falls, New York. The airport shares its runways with the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. At this time the airport primarily handles general aviation and military aircraft of all sizes. A new 65,000 square foot terminal building is slated for opening in 2009.
Bus and Rail Division

Transit police officers perform patrol duties, such as traffic control, enforcement, taking accident and crime reports and making arrests. The Bus and Rail Divsion monitors Metro Rail, Metro bus routes and related NFTA properties.
The NFTA operates over 75 bus routes, covering Erie and Niagara Counties, and Metro Rail, a 6.4 mile light rail rapid transit system. Metro Rail has 13 stations with a police sub-station located in each. This system carries over 23,000 riders eash week day.
Communications Division
Communications Director – Lieutenant Michael Garrity

Police Communications Officers perform a full range of radio and telephone duties. In addtiion to receiving communications, this division is responsible for evaluating calls for police services, dispatching personnel and equipment and managing the availability of all police personnel. Communication Officers also monitor a state-of-the-art surveillance system, which surveys the airport and Metro Rail facilities. This division performs research and clerical work, such as preparation of logs, reports, forms and updated files.
Detective Division

The Detective Division investigates all reported crime referred from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, the Niagara Falls International Airport, Metro Bus and Rail, the NFTA Boat Harbor and all other NFTA properties. Responsibilities also include background investigations required by Federal Aviation Administration for airport employees, along with the execution of arrest warrants delegated to the Transit Police.
